Idisma Drios Chardonnay 2010 - The best wine of the Balkans!

More than 400 wines from the Balkan region competed in the five categories: sparkling, dry white, dry rose, dry red and dessert at the Balkans International Wine Competition, held on 14-15 June 2012, in Sofia. The international panel of judges under the chairmanship of Konstantinos Lazarakis MW, who is the only Master of Wine in the Balkans, together with his esteemed colleagues:  Caroline Gilby MW from the UK, Christy Canterbury MW from the US, Paul Liversedge MW from the UK (residing in Switzerland) as well as other 16 wine experts from Italy, Germany, Sweden, Russia, Bulgaria, Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia, F.Y.R.O.M. and Romania assessed wines from 10 Balkan countries in accordance with the Australian system.

The panel of judges awarded 23 Gold Medals (Bulgaria: 10, Greece: 7, Slovenia: 3, F.Y.R.O.M.: 2 and Croatia: 1) which represents 6% of all wines entered for the Competition. It is a standard at similar competitions to award gold medals to approximately 10% of all entries, which clearly shows that the international panel of judges was very strict and demanding in the process of judging the Balkan wines.

The winners of the trophies per categories are as follows:

Sparkling wine: Brut Rose Estate 2008, Edoardo Miroglio Winery, Bulgaria

White wine: Idisma Drios Chardonnay 2010, Wine Art Winery, Greece

Rose wine: Sarva 2011, Dragomir Winery, Bulgaria

Red wine: Bin 41 Merlot 2008, Santa Sarah Winery, Bulgaria

Dessert wine: Season of memories 2009, Minkov Brothers Winery, Bulgaria
